tako mats artist series
We’re launching the Tako Mats Artist Series to showcase original artwork from illustrators, designers, and digital artists on premium gaming desk mats and TCG playmats!
This isn’t a marketplace or a print-on-demand free-for-all. It’s a curated collaboration program where we work closely with a small number of artists to bring their work into the hands (and onto the desks) of players around Australia and beyond.
If you make work you’re proud of and you think it would translate beautifully to a functional gaming surface, we’d love to see it!
what the artist series is
The Artist Series is our way of supporting creative talent while expanding the visual identity of Tako Mats. Selected artists will have their work:
- Featured as official Tako Mats designs
- Manufactured locally in Australia on our premium mats
- Promoted through our website, email list, and social channels
- Sold with clear artist credit and attribution
This is a collaboration, not just a print service. We want to build long-term creative partnerships, not one-off transactions.
what we're looking for
We’re especially interested in artwork that suits:
- Fantasy, sci-fi, tabletop, or gaming-adjacent themes
- Strong composition that works at large mat sizes
- Pieces that can live comfortably under cards, keyboards, dice, and hands
- Distinctive styles with a clear point of view
You don’t need to be famous. We just need to vibe with your style.
how it works
If selected, we’ll work with you to:
- Choose pieces suited to mat formats
- Prepare files for production (we’ll help with sizing and bleed)
- Agree on commercial terms up front (royalties or commissions, usage rights, reprints)
- Launch your designs as part of a curated Artist Series drop
Mats are made to order in Australia and shipped from our NSW workshop.
who this is for
This program is for:
- Digital illustrators
- Concept artists
- Fantasy and sci-fi artists
- Designers with a strong visual identity
It’s especially well suited to artists whose work already belong in gaming, tabletop, or adjacent fan communities, but that’s not a requirement.
apply to the artist series
If you’re interested, submit:
- A couple sentences about you
- A link to your portfolio or socials
- A few examples of pieces you think would work well on mats
We review submissions on a rolling basis and reach out directly if your work feels like a good fit for an upcoming drop.
a quick note
We’re keeping this program intentionally small and curated. Not every submission will be a fit for Tako Mats, but we genuinely appreciate every artist who reaches out. Even if we don’t collaborate immediately, we love discovering new Australian creatives!
